How to make Siri wait longer to respond in iOS 16 on iPhone

Techviwer October 15, 2022

Siri is Apple’s default voice attendant. But it isn’t the best voice assistant by a wide margin and has several drawbacks. One of the most frustrating features of Siri is its inability to wait long enough for users to finish talking and answering questions.

With iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, Apple has developed a solution for this issue for iPhones and iPad. It is possible to manually increase the Siri pause time and change the period of time during which it will wait. In this article, I’ve explained two methods How to make Siri wait longer to respond in iOS 16 on iPhone.

  • Press and hold the Siri button longer
  • Increase Siri Pause Time in iOS 16

Long-press the Home/Power button

Siri can be activated on iPhones by using voice commands or by pressing and holding the Home/Power button. Power button users won’t be able to invoke Siri with iPhones with a Home button.

While this might not be the most convenient method, it works. This method can help resolve your issue since Siri starts working on results before you finish speaking.

All you have to do is press and hold the Home/Power button and don’t let go until you’ve dictated your entire command or request.

Following these steps will allow you to ask Siri something whenever you have your device in your hand. Head over to the next section if you hate using buttons to activate a “voice assistant” on iOS 16.

Set Siri to wait longer in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16

Enabling a hands-free experience is the main goal of voice assistants. And every time you want to interact with a voice assistant, in our case Siri, it doesn’t make sense to do it by relying on touch. That’s why we have voice commands to activate Siri.

Until now, you had to rely on the previous method to increase Siri’s pause time. But thanks to Apple listening to customers, it has now introduced a setting with iOS 16 that lets you extend Siri’s pause time. And here’s how to do it:

  1. Run Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Accessibility.
  3. Scroll down and tap Siri under General.
  4. You can set the default, longest, or longer pause time under Siri. The default setting offers the lowest amount of time. On the other hand, if you prefer to set the pause time according to your needs, you can choose from Long or Longest.

Now you don’t need to worry about Siri’s response because you’ve made the necessary changes, Now Siri will respond before you end your sentence.

QnA section:

Q: How do I get Siri to talk slower?

Follow these steps to get Siri to respond or talk slower. Open Settings, and Accessibility, and set the speaking rate slider to your preference. Doing so will allow you to set the speed at which the assistant talks back.

Lastly, someone who does not interrupt halfway through your speech

The “press and hold the Home/Power button” option is handy if you want to ask Siri a long question since you can set the exact time Siri will listen to you. Please let us know if you have any other questions about this in the comments below, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
